Patrick Bounds and Marc Duemmler, Mechanical Engineering students in the Lee College of Engineering, recently were awarded National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowships.
The NSF Graduate Research Fellowship program recognizes and supports outstanding graduate students in NSF-supported science, technology, engineering and mathematics disciplines. Since the program began in 1952, more than 35,000 fellows have been selected. The fellowships include three years of support toward a graduate degree of the recipients’ choice at an institution of their choice. Applicants submit a personal essay about how they were led to their current degree in STEM and how they wish to pursue further graduate STEM education.
Bounds plans to attend UNC Charlotte for his graduate degree and work with Mesbah Uddin, professor of Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Science and director of the N.C. Motorsports and Automotive Research Center, focusing on aerodynamics and machine learning. Duemmler will be completing a master's degree at UNC Charlotte working with Nigel Zheng, professor of Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Science, on biomedical engineering research.
