Creative Funding Approach Gets National Attention

Wednesday, November 6, 2019

An innovative UNC Charlotte Graduate School program to encourage students to apply for external funding will be the subject of a national webinar in Nov. 2019 sponsored by NAGAP, The Association for Graduate Enrollment Management.

Dr. Julie Goodliffe, Graduate School Director of Funding and Fellowships, was invited to share process and performance details from the first two years of the Fellowship Application Incentive Program (FAIP) which provides financial incentives for graduate students to apply for fellowships.  The webinar is scheduled Nov. 7 at 2 p.m.

Through FAIP, doctoral students get training and can get $500 for applying for qualified fellowships.  An additional $1,500 incentive payment is available for the first successful fellowship application. The program resulted in almost 350 applications and has generated almost $650,000 in external grants over the past two years.

The program helps students access more than $59 billion in scholarships, internships and fellowships worldwide.  Fellowships range from $500-$150,000.
