The majority of graduate assistantships are awarded by academic departments. Many graduate students seek teaching, research, or administrative assistantships as a way of both gaining valuable experience and obtaining financial support. Students may also choose from a variety of on- or off-campus employment opportunities.
Graduate Assistantships
Graduate assistantships allow students to gain financial assistance as well as valuable knowledge and experience related to their degree program by fulfilling administrative, teaching, and research roles within the university. Again, the majority of graduate assistantships are awarded by academic departments. However, some graduate assistantships are also available through the University's various administrative offices, institutes and centers. Stipends, responsibilities, selection criteria, application and notification procedures vary from department to department. Enrolled students should discuss with their own department the specific opportunities that may be available through teaching and research service to the department.
Available Graduate Assistantships
The Graduate School maintains a list of Available Graduate Assistantships reported by various units on campus. Please note that other positions may be available to your academic department that are not listed on this site. Some departments may require a completed Application for a Graduate Assistantship. For more information on assistantships, contact your Graduate Program Coordinator.
